HOUSTON (Sept. 22, 2014) – The Global Energy and Infrastructure practice of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP hosted a seminar entitled, “Mexican Energy Reform: Impact, Challenges and Opportunities,” on Sept. 17, 2014 in Houston. The program explored the future of private and foreign investment in Mexico’s oil, gas and electricity sectors, examined issues in the development of energy projects in Mexico and highlighted key provisions of recently enacted legislation.
Distinguished program speakers included Dr. Guillermo Domínguez Vargas, Commissioner of the Mexican National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH), and José Pablo Rinkenbach, managing partner of Ainda Consultores, a highly-regarded Mexican consulting firm. Gerald Morton, general counsel and vice president of business development at Carrizo Oil and Gas, participated on the distinguished panel of current and former chief legal officers from multinational energy companies, and provided an in-house counsel perspective on new opportunities for U.S. companies to invest in Mexico’s evolving energy industry. The event drew over 100 attendees, including executives and senior in-house counsel from leading energy companies.
Several members of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Energy and Infrastructure practice served as speakers and panelists for this well-attended event. Nicolas Borda, a shareholder in the firm’s Mexico City office and frequent presenter on Mexican energy reform, discussed important regulatory considerations for companies working with Mexican energy agencies and commissions. As former in-house chief and senior legal counsel respectively for global energy companies, William Garner, a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig’s Houston office, and Robert J. Downing, a shareholder in the firm’s Miami office, shared their decades-long experience in overcoming unique challenges in complex, cross-border energy projects in Mexico. Craig V. Richardson, a shareholder in the firm’s Denver office and the former General Counsel of El Paso Corporation’s Pipeline Group, moderated the program.
