June 2015 delegation is chaired by Nobel Laureate Dr. Craig Mello
BOSTON — June 2, 2015 — David J. Dykeman, patent attorney, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Global Life Sciences & Medical Technology Group, and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Group in Boston, is participating in a U.S. Life Sciences Mission to Portugal, June 1-3, 2015. Organized by the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon and chaired by Nobel Laureate Dr. Craig Mello, the Life Sciences Mission to Portugal aims to foster cooperation and create synergies between U.S. and Portuguese entrepreneurs, companies, investors, and research institutions. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with Portugal’s top leaders in the life sciences field and discover opportunities for investment, new business development, and R&D collaboration.
During the mission June 1, Dykeman will speak on a panel about financing Portuguese life sciences technology. He will be joined by fellow panelists Stephan Morais, executive director at Caixa Capital; Peter Villax, vice president at Hovione; José da Franca, chairman and CEO at Portugal Ventures, and Pedro Rebelo de Sousa as moderator.
The Mission also includes:
- Meetings with Portugal’s top life sciences companies, entrepreneurs and start-ups.
- Meetings showcasing the best of Portuguese technology and innovation.
- Site visits to Portugal’s state-of-the-art biotechnology centers for applied research and development.
- Opportunities to connect with Portuguese and U.S. investors in the life sciences sector and to learn firsthand about European incentive programs, such as Horizon 2020.
- Targeted panels focused on commercializing R&D and academic and scientific cooperation.
- Interactions with other Portuguese scientific foundations, government officials, scientists, and business executives.
- Several networking events, including the U.S. Embassy reception hosted by Ambassador Robert Sherman.

With nearly 20 years of experience in patents, intellectual property, and licensing, Dykeman focuses his practice on securing strategic worldwide intellectual property protection and related business strategy for high-tech clients, with particular expertise in medical devices, life sciences, biotechnology, and health care IT. Dykeman is the founding co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Medical Devices Committee and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Medical Device + Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI) Magazine.
