Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Albert A. del Castillo Awarded Georgetown University Alumni Association’s Highest Honor

MIAMI – April 24, 2017 - Greenberg Traurig, P.A. Shareholder Albert A. del Castillo received the Georgetown University Alumni Association’s John Carroll Award during the university’s John Carroll Weekend held April 20 -23 in Austin, Texas.

The award, which is named after Archbishop John Carroll who founded Georgetown in 1789, is considered the highest honor that can be presented by the university to its alumni. It recognizes alumni whose achievements and record of service exemplify the ideals and traditions of Georgetown and its founder through outstanding leadership and dedication to the university. Among his many contributions to Georgetown, del Castillo served two terms each on the Board of Regents and the Law Alumni Board. He also served as Co-Chair of John Carroll Weekend 2014 in Miami and as Capital Campaign Co-Chair of Florida for Georgetown’s recently completed $1.5 billion capital campaign. He and his wife currently serve on the Law Parents Leadership Council.

Del Castillo focuses his practice on public finance law, with an emphasis on bond issues throughout the state of Florida and Puerto Rico. He has served as lead bond counsel in numerous highly innovative and complex bond financings, including financings which have been selected by The Bond Buyer as the 2004 National “Deal of the Year” and the 2012 Southeast Region “Deal of the Year.” He is a Fellow in the American College of Bond Counsel and is listed in Chambers USA Guide, as a Leading Individual (Band 1), Banking & Finance – Public Finance (2006-2016); The Best Lawyers in America, Public Finance Law (2006-2017); Super Lawyers magazine, Florida Super Lawyers (2006-2017); South Florida Legal Guide, Top Lawyer (2014-2016); and Florida Trend magazine, “Legal Elite” – Public Finance and Bonds (2006-2007 and 2011). He has been selected by the Daily Business Review as the “Top Dealmaker of the Year” – Public Finance category in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2016 and in the Corporate Finance category in 2007.

In addition, del Castillo actively supports his community in civic and nonprofit endeavors. He currently serves as a member of the Archdiocese of Miami Finance Council and of the Monsignor Edward Pace High School Board of Trustees. He is also Chairman of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and School Finance Council. He has served as President of the Miami-Dade County Education Fund and on the boards of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Memorial Hospital Foundation.
