Johnine Barnes Joins Ford Motor Company’s Legal Alliance for Women in Global Day of Service

WASHINGTON – Sept. 28, 2018 – Johnine P. Barnes, a shareholder at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, participated in Ford Motor Company’s Legal Alliance for Women’s (LAW) inaugural Global Day of Service Sept. 27 in an effort to serve organizations who support the well-being of women and girls. Barnes, along with Yisel Cabrera, Government and Community Relations Manager for the Ford Motor Company Fund, donated materials and spoke to the students in the STEM program at the Excel Academy for Girls in Washington, D.C. Greenberg Traurig was among more than 90 law firms around the world partnering with LAW to volunteer time and perform pro bono work on a day of community service.

“I am proud to be a part of Ford Motor Company’s collective vision to serve others and it is particularly meaningful because I had the opportunity to make a first-hand impression on girls in my own community,” Barnes said. “Greenberg Traurig believes that education and empowerment go hand in hand, and it is our privilege and pleasure to partner with Ford Motor Company in doing our part in paying it forward.”

Based in Washington, D.C., Barnes' practice focuses on litigating and defending administrative claims of harassment; retaliation and discrimination based on age, race, sex, and disability; wrongful discharge and breach of contract issues; and client compliance with the American with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and other federal and state statutes governing employment. She is experienced in counseling and representing companies, government agencies, and associations on labor law issues, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as analogous state statutes, collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and National Labor Relations Board proceedings. In addition to her labor and employment practice, Barnes has deep business litigation experience in non-compete agreements, contract disputes, trade secrets, international disputes, white collar crimes, property interest disputes, and legislative matters.

Barnes is involved in a myriad of professional and community activities as a member of the American Employment Law Council, the American Bar Foundation, International Women’s Forum, Litigation Counsel of America, American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Washington, D.C.
