Legal Issues with eSports

In recent years “eSports” (short for “electronic sports”) have surged in popularity. ESPN recently reported that by 2019, an estimated 427 million people will be watching eSports. “Gamers” have seen video gaming transition from a hobby to a full-blown spectator sport, complete with tournaments, cash prizes, and sponsorships. Participants often play on teams and the competitions can attract quite a large crowd and sometimes even receive television airplay. With this explosive growth of eSports come the inevitable legal questions, and the State Bar of Nevada will have a panel of 3 speakers, including GT Associate Erica Okerberg, will explore in details some of the most pressing legal issues facing eSports as well as discuss its future.
