Greenberg Traurig's Move Into Phoenix Enhances Firm's Strength in the Corporate Arena

Firm Follows Expansion Strategy by Moving Into One of the Nation's Most Active Business Communities

MIAMI, FL -- August 25, 1999 -- The international law firm Greenberg Traurig today announced it has opened a Phoenix office with 30 attorneys all formerly with O'Connor Cavanagh.

Greenberg Traurig's move into Phoenix, a city of nearly 3 million, is the latest example of the firm's continued commitment to expand its core competencies in such areas as corporate and securities, real estate and commercial litigation.

"This is an exciting opportunity for Greenberg Traurig," said Cesar Alvarez, president and CEO of the firm. "We are fortunate to have found a group of extremely talented attorneys who closely match our culture and share our entrepreneurial spirit. This synergy, combined with the fact that Phoenix is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., makes this a very attractive situation for Greenberg Traurig."

"The attorneys' vast experience in the corporate and securities arena, and their depth in other areas of the law important to our clients, such as commercial litigation, employment, financial services, governmental and administrative, municipal finance, franchising, healthcare and the rapidly growing fields of technology and intellectual property, makes this new office the ideal fit for us. We are highly impressed with the leadership of such individuals as Robert Kant, Jeffrey Verbin, Lawrence Rosenfeld, Pamela Overton, Mary Bruno, Michael Cafiso, Karl Freeburg, Jean Harris, Richard Mitchell, Gilbert Rudolph, James Ullman and Jeffrey Wolf," Alvarez added.

"The decision to join Greenberg Traurig was an easy one," said Robert Kant, chair of the Corporate and Securities Practice. "While we spoke with, and were courted by, many firms, Greenberg Traurig was a perfect complement for our practice given its national position and ranking in number of public offerings brought to market in the last decade." Kant and his team of accomplished corporate and securities attorneys provide the same type of representation that Greenberg Traurig is known for nationally. "It would not be possible to find a better match," said Kant.

Jeffrey Verbin, another senior member of the firm and chair of the Business and Financial Services Practice, added, "The merging of our two practices will be of immediate value to our clients. The ability to offer the depth of knowledge found in this firm, combined with strategic office locations, gives us a unique platform in which to service our clients on the local, regional and national levels. We believe the business community in Arizona will welcome this type of full-service national practice," Verbin said.

Joining the 12 shareholders are 18 additional attorneys, 12 paralegals and 34 staff members.
