Greenberg Traurig Attorney Christopher Bell Receives Meritorious Service Award from the American National Standards Institute

HOUSTON – Sept. 24, 2015 – Christopher L. Bell, Environmental Practice shareholder with the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been announced as a recipient of the 2015 Meritorious Service Award by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Recipients of ANSI’s Leadership and Service Awards have been recognized for their significant contributions to national and international standardization activities, as well as an ongoing commitment to their industry, their nation, and the enhancement of the global voluntary consensus standards system. ANSI will honor distinguished award recipients during a Sept.  30 ceremony held in conjunction with World Standards Week 2015 in Washington, D.C. Bell has played a major role in the development of international standards on nanotechnology, anti-bribery/corruption, sustainable development, environmental management systems and product stewardship.

Bell's practice focuses on administrative, criminal and civil litigation, and compliance counseling under all of the major environmental statutes addressing air, chemicals, remediation, water, and waste. His enforcement experience includes conducting internal investigations in both criminal and civil contexts, responding to grand jury investigations, and negotiating consent, probation, and debarment agreements. Bell is also actively involved in regulatory advocacy under the major environmental statutes, ranging from writing comments to representing clients in rulemaking petitions in the courts of appeals. He also assists clients in the design, implementation, and enhancement of environmental, health and safety management, compliance, and auditing systems (including ISO 14001).

Bell advises clients on product regulation (including chemicals, energy efficiency standards, and leading-edge issues such as nanotechnology), climate change, value chain management, and sustainable development. He is experienced with international matters, including compliance with EU product (WEEE and ROHS) and chemical (REACH) regulations, as well as international requirements for transporting raw materials and waste.
