MCCJ Honors Greenberg Traurig Founder Robert H. Traurig

Announces the Robert H. Traurig Lifetime Achievement Award

MIAMI – March 22, 2019 – MCCJ, Inc. will honor Greenberg Traurig, P.A. founder Robert H. Traurig during its Silver Medallion awards dinner on March 23 by awarding the first Robert H. Traurig Lifetime Achievement Award. The award named in Traurig’s honor will recognize an outstanding community leader who has exhibited extraordinary humanitarian efforts in the community that mirror MCCJ’s mission of creating an inclusive community. The award will only be given on special occasions and solely at the board of director’s discretion.

Traurig was a recipient of the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Silver Medallion Award in 2006 as he exemplified the values and mission of MCCJ. By renaming the award after Traurig, the organization pays homage to his legacy of leadership, generosity, and commitment to social justice and interfaith relations. Traurig served as a board member of the organization for many years. His numerous contributions to social justice causes were key to helping to build MCCJ and played a significant role in establishing the organization’s presence and credibility in the community by advancing understanding and respect among all cultures, religions, and races.

“Bob’s contributions to social justice causes spanned a lifetime,” said Nestor Rodriguez, MCCJ Executive Director. “His diligence and actions were key to helping us to establish the organization and we felt it was appropriate to name the award after him.”

In 1967, Traurig partnered with Mel Greenberg and Larry Hoffman to establish Greenberg Traurig Hoffman, which from the foundation they laid in Miami has grown to become a global law firm with more than 2,000 attorneys in 39 offices worldwide. Originally lunch buddies, the three recognized a niche they could capitalize on, as each had an expertise in a different area of practice: tax, real estate, and corporate. As a team, they brought a “New York City-style approach” of practicing law to a city on the brink of expansion. Traurig, Greenberg, and Hoffman were committed to working hard and achieving results for clients, and staying active in their local community - creating a firm culture that is still its core today.

Traurig, who passed away in July 2018, believed in leading by example as a passionate member of the Miami community. He served as a President or Chairman of many organizations over the years, including MCCJ, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Miami Opera and many more.

MCCJ was founded in 1935 as the Miami branch of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Since 2011, the group has been known as MCCJ and its mission is to advance understanding and respect among all cultures, religions and races. MCCJ seeks an inclusive community in which all people are treated with dignity and respect. The organization’s mission includes creating safe havens for dialog, training inclusive leaders, and highlighting the benefits of diversity through education, advocacy, dialog, and conflict resolution.
