Greenberg Traurig West Palm Beach Recognized by HomeSafe for Pro Bono Work

MIAMI – Feb. 13, 2020 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. will be presented with the HomeSafe Hero Award during HomeSafe’s 17th Annual “The Classic Rock & Roll Party” on Feb. 15 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL. The HomeSafe Hero Award recognizes the firm for its longtime support of the organization on a pro bono basis, especially in real estate and litigation matters.

HomeSafe is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting victims of child abuse and domestic violence across Palm Beach County and South Florida. The non-profit provides a safe, nurturing home for approximately 44 children, ages eight to 17, and an independent living program once they turn 18, to help them become self-sustaining, successful adults. In addition to protecting victims, HomeSafe provides programs designed to prevent new cases of violence, and prepare children, young adults and families for safer, more productive lives.

Greenberg Traurig West Palm Beach office Real Estate Shareholder David M. Layman has been on the HomeSafe Board of Directors, previously serving as president, and represented HomeSafe in pro bono matters for more than 20 years. The firm has been involved with HomeSafe for a total of 30 years. The award also recognizes the work of Miami office Shareholder Elliot H. Scherker, co-chair of the firm’s National Appellate Practice, and Mark F. Bideau, managing shareholder of the firm’s West Palm Beach and Boca Raton offices.

“HomeSafe is pleased to honor Greenberg Traurig as its HomeSafe Hero for 2020. The firm’s continued support over the past 30 years has been critical to our success,” said HomeSafe CEO Matthew Ladika. “More recently, the trio of lawyers, David Layman, Elliot Scherker, and Mark Bideau, have successfully guided HomeSafe through multiple land purchases and sales, along with defending HomeSafe through numerous legal challenges in both the 15th Circuit Court and twice through the 4th District Court of Appeal, all at no cost whatsoever to the charity. We are so thankful for Greenberg Traurig’s continued support and dedication to our mission of creating safer, more productive lives for infants, children, young adults, and families.”

Layman was honored with an individual award from HomeSafe two years ago for his pro bono representation of the organization in the $10.5 million sale of one of its properties, which helped to raise funds to be used for opening additional facilities.

“HomeSafe is an invaluable organization meeting the housing and other important needs of the most vulnerable population in Palm Beach County: abused and neglected children,” Layman said. “I am privileged to be able to help advance this important mission. It’s an honor for Greenberg Traurig to be recognized for its commitment to HomeSafe and we look forward to continuing our support.”
