Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Recognized in Lawdragon’s ‘500 Leading Lawyers in America’

NEW YORK – Feb. 22, 2021 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP attorneys Johnine P. Barnes, Lori G. Cohen, Karen M. Kennard, and A. Michael Pratt were included in Lawdragon’s 2021 guide for “500 Leading Lawyers in America.”

In its 16th edition, this guide compiles honorees through editorial research, submissions, and nominations to highlight the top legal professionals across the industry. Published in late January 2021, the publisher notes for this particular edition features lawyers “who have joined arm in arm to turn the page on hard times. They kept showing up. Whether to help a client running a strapped business to find liquidity, ensure a social media company paid for invading a populace’s privacy or advocate in the most important election of their lifetime.”

Barnes, who is recognized by Lawdragon as one of the “Nation’s 100 Most Powerful Employment Attorneys” and one of the “500 Leading U.S. Corporate Employment Lawyers,” practices labor and employment law. She has wide-ranging experience litigating, including first chairing jury trials, and defending claims of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful discharge, and breach of contract. Barnes is nationally noted as recommended for her counselling and compliance practice as well. Her practice focuses on client compliance with federal and state statutes governing employment and labor laws on bet the company issues. She has counseled and represented companies ranging in size from Fortune 10 to small family businesses, government agencies, and associations. In addition to her labor and employment practice, Barnes handles non-compete agreements disputes, contract disputes, trade secret matters, and international disputes.

Cohen serves as Vice Chair of Greenberg Traurig as well as co-chair of the firm’s global Litigation Practice, overseeing more than 600 attorneys. She has been recognized in Lawdragon’s “500 Leading Lawyers in America” for nine years in a row, since 2013. Cohen is also chair of the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice and chair of the Trial Practice Group. Nationally recognized for her extraordinary trial record of 57 defense verdicts, Cohen leads a global practice that focuses on complex litigation of all types, including products liability and pharmaceutical, medical device, and health care litigation. Cohen has served as national, regional, and trial counsel for numerous medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, handling all types of litigation, including class actions, multidistrict litigation, and trials nationally. Cohen and her team routinely take complex cases to trial and win, including some of the most complex mass torts in history. Well known for her record of winning high-stakes trials, Cohen is often called up to “parachute in” at the last minute before trial, especially in challenging cases in dangerous jurisdictions.

Kennard, recognized as a “Top Attorney in Austin” in 2020 by Austin Monthly Magazine, focuses her practice on government law, policy and regulatory matters with an emphasis on municipal local government issues. Her experience spans more than three decades and includes positions as City Attorney for the City of Austin, Texas, and General Counsel for the Texas Municipal League.

Pratt, a 2020 Acritas “Star Lawyer” and a former chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, concentrates his practice on complex commercial and product liability disputes, having tried cases in state and federal courts, representing financial institutions, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and governmental institutions, among others. With three decades of private practice at Am Law 100 firms, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his broad-based representations, leveraging a rich array of prior legal experiences. Those include serving as the chief litigation counsel for corporate and toxic tort matters for a Fortune 100 company and as the former chief deputy city solicitor charged with overseeing the commercial litigation division for the City of Philadelphia Law Department.
