NEW YORK – July 20, 2020 – Good in Practice, Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s podcast focused on pro bono, released its newest episode titled “‘You Can’t Put a Price on It’: An Unaccompanied Minor’s Path to Citizenship.” Good in Practice is hosted by Shareholder Caroline J. Heller, chair of the global law firm’s Global Pro Bono Program and commercial litigator in the New York office.
In this episode, Heller talks to Greenberg Traurig Shareholder and Houston Co-Pro Bono Coordinator Jennifer Tomsen and her client, Oscar, an unaccompanied minor from Honduras for whom Jennifer obtained a green card. Oscar discusses his life in Honduras, why he fled to the United States to be with his mother when he was 17 years old, and how he acclimated to his new life. Tomsen discusses the lengthy step-by-step process and barriers along the way to attaining legal residency for young refugees, and the joy of successfully helping a child find safety and happiness in the United States.
Good in Practice is formatted to tell the powerful stories of the good pro bono work can achieve, highlighting the work of Greenberg Traurig attorneys, staff, and clients. The goal is to encourage all practitioners to assist underserved and vulnerable communities by providing much-needed legal counsel on a volunteer basis.
