Gearan, a Labor & Employment shareholder in the Boston office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will speak on the Boston Bar Association’s (BBA) Webinar, “The Supremes - A Review of Recent Labor and Employment Decisions at the U.S. Supreme Court and Supreme Judicial Court,” Thursday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. EDT. Gearan and his fellow panelists will discuss recent employment decisions from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and the United States Supreme Court. Topics will include the evolving legal landscape of discrimination, whistleblower, wage and hour, benefits, labor, and leave law litigation. The panel will also examine the implications of high court rulings on employers, employees, and the workplace environment.
Gearan concentrates his practice in the areas of labor and employment and business litigation, where he defends companies and public institutions in labor and employment, business, and consumer actions, including class and collective actions. He is experienced in complex employment litigation and trials and frequently handles state and federal whistleblower claims, non-compete and restrictive covenant litigation, trade secret, wage and hour litigation, and individual employee discrimination, harassment, and retaliation litigation and arbitrations. Gearan also provides counsel to senior management and human resource personnel on various employment law compliance matters, such as leaves of absence, exempt status classification under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state law, employee discipline, and restrictive covenant agreements. He is also regularly called upon by clients to conduct outside independent investigations of sensitive personnel issues or threatened legal actions.
