NEW YORK (Oct. 24, 2014) – The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP is sponsoring the American Conference Institute’s (ACI) 8th National Forum on ERISA Litigation. The conference takes place Monday, Oct. 27 - 28, 2014, at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton New York City. Shareholders Charles S. Birenbaum and Todd D. Wozniak will speak at this distinguished yearly forum that will focus on expert strategies for leading in-house and outside counsel on litigating today’s key issues involving benefit plans, plan investment and fiduciaries.
According to the ACI website, this forum has been designed to bring together the nation’s leading in-house experts and outside counsel to engage in a two-day seminar geared towards developing winning litigation strategies and exploring new and emerging theories of liability from the plaintiffs’ bar.
Birenbaum, chair of Northern California, will focus his session on The Affordable Care Act, health care reform, and new claims and defenses in workforce realignment litigation. He is an experienced labor and employment attorney who focuses his practice on traditional labor and employment law matters, and has wide-ranging experience litigating in state and federal courts as well as various administrative agencies. Birenbaum has testified on proposed legislation impacting entire industries before state legislative committees, and has interfaced and negotiated with labor organizations, politicians, regulators, and industry leaders to resolve complex issues for his clients in the health care, energy, construction and other industries. His appellate work includes decisions from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit under the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act (ERISA), National Labor Relations Act, and the Labor Management Relations Act.
Wozniak, shareholder in the firm's Atlanta office, will focus his session on the impact of the Fifth Third v. Dudenhoeffer decision and the future of stock drop cases and litigation regarding plan investments. He defends plan sponsors‚ fiduciaries‚ third party administrators‚ and service providers against all types of benefits and ERISA claims throughout the United States. Wozniak’s national ERISA litigation practice has focused on defending ERISA class actions but he has also defended institutional clients in single and multiple plaintiff cases. He also defends clients in a wide-range of business and employment disputes‚ including wage and hour class/collective actions‚ non-discrimination claims‚ plant closing and mass layoff class actions‚ and non-compete and trade secrets litigation.
