Greenberg Traurig Raises $50,000 to Support JALBCA
NEW YORK – Dec. 14, 2015 – For the second year in a row, The Meltones won the annual Law Rocks NYC battle of the bands, held Thursday, Dec. 10. The Meltones is the house band of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Law Rocks benefits local nonprofit organizations in cities around the world through fundraising concerts that star competing bands of talented legal professionals-turned-rockstars. This year, The Meltones played in support of the Judges & Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert (JALBCA).
“JALBCA was formed by judges and lawyers who personally have been affected by breast cancer,” said Richard A. Edlin, regional operating chair for Greenberg Traurig, chair of the firm’s New York Litigation Practice, and a board member of JALBCA. “We were proud to support them as our charity of choice for Law Rocks. JALBCA does tremendous work in the community to promote early detection, as well as provide support for all those affected by breast cancer.”
The winning band was selected on the basis of four factors – sponsorship dollars raised and ticket sales, donations raised, judges’ score, and audience choice. The net event proceeds are shared across all of the charities being played for, with the winning band’s designated charity receiving the largest donation of the night.
“This event embodies Greenberg Traurig’s culture, bringing together lawyers and staff from across our global platform to surpass expectations,” said Stephen L. Rabinowitz, New York co-managing shareholder and a Meltones’ guitarist. “The Meltones now includes lawyers and staff from five of our offices in the U.S. and Europe. Our whole global community – lawyers, staff, clients and other friends – got behind this event and made it a smashing financial success for JALBCA.”
The Meltones are Rabinowitz and Miami Real Estate shareholder Burt Bruton on guitar; Christopher A. Cernik, Albany Government Law & Policy shareholder, on keyboards; Daniel M. Rabinovitz, Boston Litigation shareholder, on trumpet and vocals; Thédoor Melchers, Amsterdam Corporate & Securities shareholder, on Trombone, Joseph C. Gangitano, New York Corporate & Securities associate, on guitar and vocals; Ashley LeBlanc, New York Litigation associate, on vocals; Tracy Newirth, practice development coordinator, on vocals; Daniel Blumberg, a Greenberg Traurig alum, on bass; and special guests Byron Avery and Chuck Langford on drums and saxophone, respectively.
The Meltones, named after one of the firm’s founders, Mel Greenberg, has been the Greenberg Traurig “house band” since the mid-80s. The members have changed over the years and the band has performed at various firm events.
