Greenberg Traurig Women Attorneys and Clients Volunteer at Dress for Success Houston

HOUSTON – June 13, 2016 – As part of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Women’s Initiative, the women attorneys of the firm’s Houston office, with their female clients and colleagues, recently volunteered at Dress for Success Houston. The group learned about the work that Dress for Success does “beyond the suit,” including preparing women for job interviews, empowering them with critical technical skills, and helping them build a network of successful women so that they can leave the life of poverty behind. Greenberg Traurig women attorneys and clients also learned that one of the largest groups that Dress for Success Houston serves is female military veterans.

After the presentation, the team volunteered to organize inventory for the Dress for Success Summer Sale. The event promoted stronger connections among attorneys, clients, and friends, who together spent the afternoon giving back to other women in need.

Greenberg Traurig’s participation in the Dress for Success Houston event was spearheaded by Houston shareholders Annapoorni Sankaran and Shira R. Yoshor. Both women are very active in community service.

“I’ve been involved with Dress for Success for over a decade, and have witnessed the many ways this organization improves the lives of women,” observed Yoshor.

“Beyond our substantive legal work, service to the community is an important and meaningful way to connect with our clients. We had an excellent time volunteering in an organization which supports women, and look forward to more volunteer opportunities,” said Sankaran.

Sankaran is a commercial litigator who represents institutional and individual clients in all stages of business disputes with an eye toward achieving creative business solutions. Sankaran has trial and appellate experience before federal and state courts as well as experience representing clients in mediation and arbitration. She also has significant experience with class actions and other complex litigation. Sankaran also has notable experience advising clients on matters relating to issues arising under the anti-bribery and record-keeping provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), including with respect to the development and implementation of internal compliance programs.

Yoshor focuses her practice on labor and employment matters and a wide variety of complex commercial litigation. Yoshor regularly counsels employers on managing workplace issues from hire to termination, from the boardroom to the courtroom. She has more than two decades of experience drafting and litigating employment agreements, handbooks and policies, investigating claims and complaints, and defending individual and multi-party claims before courts and arbitrators around the country.
