Berlin, October 2017 - Greenberg Traurig Germany advised Oxford Properties (Oxford) and co-investor with Madison International Realty (Madison) on the acquisition and financing of the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Oxford is the global real estate arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). The purchase price amounts to approximately EUR 1.1 billion. The seller of the portfolio is NPS Korea. This acquisition marks Oxford's first investment in Berlin.
The ensemble at Potsdamer Platz covers an area of approximately 24,000 square meters, consisting of eight buildings including the over 100 meter high Bahn Tower with the headquarters of Deutsche Bahn. Overall, the Sony Center offers around 112,000 square meters of floor space. The most important tenants include Deutsche Bahn, Facebook, Sanofi, Sony and the coworking space WeWork. The center also houses a Cinestar and IMAX cinema as well as a Legoland Discovery Center. Oxford will establish its own team for the asset management and expansion of the platform in Berlin.
Greenberg Traurig Germany already advised Oxford in the past on the sale of several residential portfolios as well as a housing company.
