Greenberg Traurig's Carolyn McNiven Spoke at ABA's National Institute on Health Care Fraud

SAN FRANCISCO – May 25, 2017Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Carolyn McNiven spoke at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 27th Annual National Institute on Health Care Fraud (NIHCF) in Fort Lauderdale on May 17. She participated in the “Introduction to Fraud and Compliance for Industry Groups” panel, addressing the basic fraud, abuse and compliance issues associated with providers (hospitals and physicians). 

 

The NIHCF provided an educational experience for health care attorneys, regulators, compliance professionals, prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys and qui tam relators’ counsel. Drawing participants from each of these groups, panelists provided unique perspectives that advanced discussion of current legal and ethical issues in the health care fraud practice.

 

McNiven, a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office, focuses on government enforcement issues, whether the matter is criminal, civil or both. Her understanding of government decision-making is grounded in her many years of experience as a federal criminal prosecutor in Chicago where she served as that office’s criminal healthcare fraud coordinator, established its HEAT Strike Force, and handled numerous high-profile public corruption and corporate fraud matters. An experienced trial and appellate attorney, McNiven is particularly skilled at negotiating with enforcement authorities before charging decisions are made to optimize outcomes for her clients. She also counsels companies faced with sensitive legal and practical problems relating to suspected criminal activities by employees, including cybercrime, and anti-corruption matters.
