Francis Citera and Sylvia Simson to Present on Environmental Exposure Litigation for Lawline

NEW YORK – Oct. 28, 2019 – Francis A. Citera and Sylvia E. Simson of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, will present “Environmental Exposure Litigation: Recent Developments With Respect to Class Certification And Medical Monitoring Claims” on Oct. 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET for Lawline, a platform for online continuing legal education.

The course will address recent developments at the class certification stage in the environmental toxic tort arena, including recent decisions with respect to certification of the “issue” class, and the pursuit and treatment of medical monitoring claims in federal and state courts. The webinar will also provide insight into important considerations and best practices for attorneys defending such large-scale actions.

Citera is co-chair of the firm's Products Liability & Mass Torts Practice and co-chair of the Chicago Litigation Practice. He has over 30 years of experience defending toxic tort actions and other complex litigation in both federal and state courts. He has tried many cases, including an action by the government to enforce a unilateral administrative order, an allocation case among potentially responsible parties, and a complex product liability, wrongful death case. Citera has written and spoken extensively on class action litigation, product safety issues, and claims for medical monitoring.

Simson, of counsel in the firm’s New York office, is experienced in litigating contractual disputes, toxic exposure claims, failure to warn allegations, business torts, bankruptcy claims, insurance coverage issues, breach of fiduciary duty and fraud allegations, purported product defects, and alleged False Claims Act violations. She has deep experience with multi-district litigation, class actions, and the coordination of related actions in both federal and state courts. Simson has assisted clients in the pharmaceutical, energy, chemicals, technology, financial services, consumer products, insurance, and building materials sectors, among others.
