Greenberg Traurig Shareholders Selected for Inclusion in The Legal 500 Private Practice Powerlist

MIAMI – Oct. 31, 2019 – Shareholders Jeffrey A. Chester, Antonio Peña, and Manuel Rajunov of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP were selected for inclusion in The Legal 500 “Private Practice Powerlist.” The publication recognizes the leading U.S. based lawyers whose practice includes a specialist focus on Mexico.

According to the organization’s website, selection to the “Private Practice Powerlist” is based on an independent nomination process and is supplemented by rigorous background research from The Legal 500’s U.S. and Latin America teams. For 30 years, The Legal 500 has been analyzing the capabilities of law firms across the world. In its second year, the “Private Practice Powerlist” identifies key individual practitioners with outstanding specialization in, and knowledge of, the U.S. and Mexico.

A member of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Practice and based in the Los Angeles office, Chester is Global Head of Energy Project Finance. Chester has been a leader in the development and financing of renewable energy projects under Mexico’s Energy reform laws and the importation of U.S. legal and financial renewable practices and techniques into the Mexican market. He has deep experience handling transactions related to renewable energy, having closed more than 100 wind and solar power projects throughout the United States and Mexico. He has been centrally involved in the development of the equity, debt, and capital markets for renewable energy projects and represents developers, sponsors, lenders, and investors in a wide variety of energy finance transactions.

Peña, a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice and the Latin America Practice, is based in the Miami office and leads the firm’s foreign law clerk program. He has broad experience in the United States, Spain, and Latin America, representing strategic investors and private equity funds. Prior to the firm, Peña was in-house counsel at Banamex, and later, was acting general counsel for a joint venture between two Fortune 500 companies operating in 13 jurisdictions in Latin America. Peña, who is president of the Interamerican Chapter of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, was recently recognized by the Latin American Corporate Counsel Association as one of Latin America’s leading business lawyers.

A member of the Tax Practice in the firm’s Dallas office, Rajunov focuses his practice on tax consulting and transactional advice to foreign investors doing business in Latin America, as well as advising Latin American investors on their investments overseas. With more than 25 years of experience, his practice has special emphasis on securities offerings, majority and minority investments, mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions. Rajunov’s experience spans a number of different sectors, including the real estate development, finance, private wealth, manufacturing and distribution, retail, technology, gaming, hospitality, and housing sectors.
