Greenberg Traurig’s Erik de Bie and Marijn Bodelier Speak at Brexit Masterclass

AMSTERDAM – March 12, 2019 – Erik de Bie and Marijn Bodelier of Greenberg Traurig, LLP Amsterdam’s office recently spoke at a Brexit masterclass “Brace for Impact” hosted by the Economic Development Board (Crossroads Limburg) on February 28, 2019, in Venlo, The Netherlands. Former European Council President Herman van Rompuy served as keynote speaker.

The event focused on the impact of Brexit and how businesses can prepare for the upcoming changes. De Bie and Bodelier shared their latest insights on different possible scenarios for the Brexit date of March 29, 2019, and what may occur during the transition period until Dec. 31, 2020. De Bie discussed strategies to potentially mitigate the impact of Brexit on customs, VAT, and supply chain processes. Bodelier addressed the expected impact of Brexit on existing European Union regulations, including environmental and data protection.

Erik de Bie focuses his practice on international trade, customs, and VAT matters. Erik counsels clients in European trade, export controls, sanctions, customs, VAT, and excise duty related matters, including litigation. He concentrates on developing and implementing European savings programs, setting up and restructuring European distribution and supply chains, improving and structuring customs, excise duty, and VAT related compliance, and limiting risks and liabilities. Given the developments in European legislation and the needs of his clients, Erik is frequently involved in cross-border matters, including obtaining certification as Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), implementing customs bonded warehouse regimes, and counseling on VAT issues.

Marijn Bodelier focuses on public law, environmental law and real estate. Marijn has particular experience in litigation of regulatory and real estate related matters. He is regularly involved in international transactions and innovative projects where public law aspects are a key element.
