Greenberg Traurig Attorneys to Serve on Committees for Newly Approved Legislative & Campaign Law Specialization in Texas

AUSTIN – Feb. 25, 2020 –  Elizabeth Ross Hadley of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will serve on the newly appointed committee that will vet applicants and develop the application for the newly approved Texas Legislative and Campaign Law specialization. Hadley is chair of the Legislative and Campaign Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and a shareholder in the Government Law and Policy and Litigation practices in the Austin office.

“This is a historic moment in time for Texas, given that we are the first state to approve such a specialization and I am honored to be part of it in service to the State Bar,” Hadley said.

Hadley currently serves as chair of the State Bar of Texas Legislative and Campaign Law section and will share her committee duties with former section chair, Austin attorney and lobbyist Andy Cates. During the past two years, as former chair, Cates spearheaded the efforts to have the Supreme Court of Texas approve the specialization. A separate committee will oversee the creation of the exam.

Greenberg Traurig Associate Aaron Gregg will serve alongside Hadley and Cates on the advisory commission, while Austin Managing Shareholder Thomas Bond will serve as a member of the exam commission.

There are 24 other legal specializations in the state of Texas. Lawyers looking to earn certification under a specialization must have extensive experience in select areas of law, complete a specified number of continuing legal education hours in the specialty area, and pass a rigorous exam. The Legislative and Campaign specialization will focus on legislative procedures, campaign finance, lobby laws, and the mechanisms of government.
