MIAMI – July 14, 2020 – Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder of the Miami office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., was appointed to the Venture For America (VFA) board of directors. He will serve on the organization’s budget committee for a three-year term.
Venture For America is a fellowship program that empowers recent college graduates to launch their careers as entrepreneurs and make meaningful impacts in American cities. Its mission is to create economic opportunity by mobilizing the next generation of entrepreneurs and equipping them with the skills and resources they need to grow into startup leaders and turn their business ideas into reality. The organization recruits recent college graduates – who want to create jobs and work at a startup – for a two-year fellowship. The VFA board of directors consists of business leaders who provide mission-based leadership, strategic governance, and serve as ambassadors for the organization.
“I am looking forward to working with the diverse and inclusive community of VFA’s startup leaders, founders, and board members to help mentor and develop future entrepreneurs across the country,” Davis said. “This is a natural fit for me because at Greenberg Traurig, our culture is all about encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit. Through my practice in the technology area, I have witnessed how young people with an idea can become important entrepreneurs and leaders. The VFA program helps to get the next generation of entrepreneurs started on the right path.”
"Jaret has been a longstanding supporter of Venture For America's work in Miami, and has helped create inroads for our organization into the local startup ecosystem. That, paired with his deep experience in governance and corporate law, adds a tremendous asset to our national Board of Directors, said Amy Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Venture For America. “I look forward to continuing to work with Jaret to support our young entrepreneurs across the country, especially as we build an onramp to entrepreneurship for historically excluded communities."
As co-managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Miami office, Davis oversees approximately 170 attorneys and 200 business staff. For more than a decade, he has overseen the office and served as one of several attorneys leading the firm’s efforts to be a dominant player in the technology industry both in South Florida and beyond.
Davis focuses his corporate and securities practice on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, and large financings. He routinely provides representation to publicly traded clients having an aggregate market capitalization of over $20 billion. The majority of his clients are technology players, ranging from information technology companies, to life sciences/biotech companies, to companies focusing on renewable energy sources.
In addition to his practice, Davis serves in a number of civic capacities which allow him to leverage his professional interests to assist the community. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and serves as a co-founder and General Counsel of the eMerge Americas global technology conference. He recently served as Chair of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Official Economic Development Partnership for Miami-Dade County.
