Keith Hammeran is an associate in the litigation practice in Greenberg Traurig’s New York office. Before joining the firm, Keith clerked for Justice Marcy S. Friedman of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. In this role, Keith assisted with the coordination and litigation of dozens of residential mortgage-backed securities breach of contract and fraud cases filed by trustees and investors against securitizers in New York County following the 2008 financial crisis. He has also worked for several non-profit legal organizations.



  • Litigated federal constitutional challenge to Ohio statutory and constitutional provisions barring officials from recognizing same-sex marriages entered in other states (through grant of certiorari). The case was one of several Sixth Circuit cases ultimately decided in Obergefell v. Hodges, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that state laws banning marriage between persons of the same sex are unconstitutional.°
  • Obtained key admissions from defendants regarding discovery dispute, leading court to temporarily unseal and order production from over six hundred sealed police records.°
  • Assisted with the trial and drafting of judicial opinions in two CPLR Article 77 proceedings brought by trustees of nearly 400 RMBS trusts for approval of settlements totaling over $5 billion.
  • Assisted in overturning N.Y. Supreme Court decision finding that women lacked parental standing to seek custody/visitation of child born by assisted reproduction into her out-of-state same-sex marriage prior to passage of the Marriage Equality Act.°
  • Assisted in litigating inheritance and domicile dispute before the N.Y. Court of Appeals.°
