David Layman is a shareholder in the Real Estate Practice of international law firm Greenberg Traurig. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2010, and Best Lawyers named him “West Palm Beach Lawyer of the Year” in the field of real estate law in 2016 and 2010. Layman offers advice in the areas of real estate development, investment, condominium, structuring and land use regulations. He serves on the board of HomeSafe, where, as board president in 2008, he received the Pro Bono Award for Non-profit Law from the Legal Aid Society for his work with HomeSafe’s abused and neglected children. Recently, Greenberg Traurig was honored as the HomeSafe Hero for the pro bono work Layman and his colleagues have done to help the organization serve abused and neglected children in Palm Beach County. Layman also has been a member of the board of St. George’s Center Inc., which provides more than 100,000 meals a year to the homeless in Riviera Beach. He is an honors graduate of the University of Florida and the Levin College of Law, where he was chief tax editor of the Law Review and vice president of Florida Blue Key.

  • Represented the developer of the ultra-luxury condominium, The Bristol, in West Palm Beach, in all land acquisition and in the closing of its $206 million construction loan.
  • Represented affiliate of a family trust in $19.5 million purchase of Via Bice, on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.
  • Represented purchasers and sellers of billions of dollars of commercial properties.
  • Represented developers of condominium projects, including the ultra-luxury Il Lugano, in Palm Beach, Florida.
  • Represented affiliates of Garcia Companies in the purchase of over 27 square miles in Hendry County, Florida, and the subsequent sale of 12 square miles, with a total transaction value of over $250 million.
  • Represented national banks in over a billion dollars of commercial real estate loans, including the closing of a $145 million development and construction loan for a national bank on a large residential resort development in Palm Beach County, Florida.
  • Represented purchasers of numerous resorts and hotels, including the Holiday Isle Resort in the Florida Keys and the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Represented owner in a $58 million refinancing of the Union Square apartment complex in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with Deutsche Bank Mortgage Capital. Involved in the purchase of a regional mall with a price of over $200 million.
  • Represented national banks in environmental matters, including the removal of underground storage tanks, cleanup of contaminated soil, and financial reimbursement from the State of Florida.
  • Represented buyers and sellers of multi-million dollar homes.
  • Represented parties to construction contracts, including the owner of a $19 million office tower.
  • Represented a large landowner in all office, industrial and warehouse leasing in Palm Beach and Broward Counties in Florida.
  • Represented a national bank in a favorable property tax appeal, in which the assessment of property was reduced from almost $8 million to approximately $100,000.
  • Represented the City of West Palm Beach, Florida, in drafting its Concurrency Management Ordinance.
  • Represented owners of various projects in land use and zoning matters before local and state governments, including obtaining a binding determination that two projects were not DRIs.
  • Represented various landowners in condemnation matters.
