Senior Associate

Francesco Mazzocchi focuses his practice on Italian and EU competition law. Francesco regularly represents clients in proceedings before the European Commission and the EU courts relating to state aid, cartel law, and abuse of dominant position. He is deeply experienced in merger control, especially in multi-jurisdictional filings before the Commission and the Italian Antitrust Authority and advises companies on issues related to anti-competitive behavior.

Francesco advises clients on a broad range of EU law-related matters, with an emphasis on regulated sectors such as banking, pharmaceuticals, media and telecommunications, including the representation of companies before the EU Court of Justice in direct actions and preliminary references submitted by Italian courts.

Francesco has wide-ranging experience in litigation and arbitration, including corporate law and sports law matters.

Moreover, he has deep experience in drafting distribution, license and sponsorship contracts, general sale conditions as well as other types of commercial contracts.

  • Assisted a major Italian farmers association before Italian administrative courts defending a decree requiring the indication of the origin of the wheat used for pasta.°
  • Represented the shareholder of a leading construction company before the European Court of Human Rights.°
  • Acted as a counsel in many arbitration cases.°
  • Assisted the leading Italian pharma and chemical associations in the intervention before the Court of Justice in the application lodged by the Municipality of Milan on the transfer of seat of the European Medical Association (EMA).°
  • Assisted a leading telecom operator in relation to a preliminary reference to the Court of Justice on the level of contributions required to licensed telecommunications operators for providing services to private customers.°
  • Assisted a leading telecommunication company and clients active in other sectors in preliminary reference proceedings before the Court of Justice under Article 267 TFEU.°
  • Advised clubs and a football association on the UEFA admission criteria and on football broadcasting rights.°
