Richard Abeeku Mills-Robertson combines legal, business, and international experience to provide responsive counsel by understanding client goals and needs, analyzing options, and crafting tailored strategies. He is driven to provide critical support, manage risk and reduce costs. A skilled litigator with a business background, Richard has wide-ranging experience across diverse industries including branded and generic pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, and automotive technology.

In a prior role as a strategic consultant, Richard led a multi-faceted initiative to create and integrate a new organizational unit, including staffing and organizational design, branding, vendor management, startup operations, and change management.

Richard currently focuses his legal practice on intellectual property litigation, transactions, and counseling including handling various matters for pharmaceutical companies.

  • Collegium Pharmaceutical, Inc. v. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc.:  Representing Teva in the trial of its Paragraph IV challenge to Collegium’s patents in the District of Delaware relating to Xtampza® ER controlled-release tablets for the management of severe pain.
  • Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. v. Actavis Laboratories FL, Inc.:  Representing Actavis/Teva in the trial and appeal of its Paragraph IV challenge to Orexigen Therapeutics’ patents in the District of Delaware relating to Contrave® extended-release tablets for the treatment of obesity.
  • Pernix Ireland Pain Ltd. and Pernix Therapeutics, LLC v. Actavis Laboratories:  Represented Actavis/Teva in Paragraph IV challenges of Pernix Ireland Pain Ltd.’s patents in the District of Delaware relating to Zohydro® extended release hydrocodone tablets indicated for the management of severe pain.
  • Represented Black Dragon Capital in connection with its acquisition of Grass Valley, a leading technology supplier of advanced broadcast and media solutions, with operations in over 20 different jurisdictions worldwide.
  • Crafted key defense resulting in summary judgment after five years of litigation regarding microlithography machines; press reported that client avoided an estimated $1.8 billion in potential damages.°
  • Conducted due diligence on, and evaluated the strength of, a pharmaceutical company’s patent portfolios relating to an HIV drug to assist client’s internal decision about whether to sue or not.°
  • Prepared a key pharmaceutical company executive for trial in an ANDA patent trial challenging the validity of several patents on a billion dollar multiple sclerosis drug.°
  • Represented client in a patent infringement case involving software modems.°
  • Managed discovery and preparation of patent infringement contentions re: needle-free IV connectors.°
  • Litigated and won unemployment benefits for several pro bono clients previously denied benefits.°
  • Won asylum, on a pro bono basis, for client fearing persecution in Uzbekistan.°
