Thomas J. Sotos is an associate in the Litigation Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office, where he litigates civil and criminal cases in administrative, bankruptcy, state, and federal courts across the country. Tom’s practice, which includes multidistrict litigation and class actions, emphasizes the banking sector. Tom frequently represents financial institutions, investors, and bankers in complex civil actions and white collar prosecutions.

  • Represented former bank vice president on federal criminal charges for bank fraud. Obtained dismissal of all charges by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, with prejudice, one month before scheduled four-week trial.
  • Third-chaired the administrative prosecution of multiple police officers charged with misconduct stemming from the shooting of Laquan McDonald. All officers convicted.
  • Represented Fortune 100 bank as plaintiff seeking payment on a high-dollar cashier’s check in connection with a multistate Ponzi scheme. Obtained settlement resulting in a seven-figure payment to the client.
  • Representing Fortune 100 supermarket chain in multidistrict litigation and various state actions described by the Washington Post as the largest and most complicated civil case in U.S. history.
  • Representing national university and its employees in high-profile case alleging civil rights and negligence claims in connection with the abduction and murder of a visiting foreign scholar.
  • Representing CEO and owner of trading company on federal criminal charges for pump-and-dump securities fraud.
  • Representing Fortune 100 bank in civil fraud case in connection with multimillion dollar Ponzi scheme.
