FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. April 29, 2015 – International law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. announced the addition of Flora R. Perez to its Corporate & Securities and Private Equity practice groups. Perez was formerly Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Ryder System, Inc.

Based in Greenberg Traurig’s Fort Lauderdale office, Perez will focus her practice on advising public and private companies on corporate and securities matters, private equity and venture transactions, public and private securities offerings, asset-backed financing transactions and mergers and acquisitions. She has extensive experience in counseling boards and senior management on a variety of legal issues including corporate governance, executive compensation, Securities and Exchange Commission reporting requirements, compliance, strategic business initiatives, commercial matters, and employment.

“I am excited to be joining Greenberg Traurig’s Corporate & Securities and Private Equity practice groups, which has a tremendous reputation both in South Florida and worldwide,” Perez said. “I look forward to this opportunity to both diversify and develop my practice as a part of Greenberg Traurig’s global platform.”

Greenberg Traurig’s Corporate & Securities practice is comprised of more than 350 lawyers who advise public and privately held companies on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, private equity and venture capital, underwritten and syndicated offerings, commercial finance and syndicated lending, cross-border transactions and general corporate matters. The group’s industry experience includes transactions in a wide range of fields, from the pharmaceutical, medical devices and life sciences fields, to representations involving clients in the aviation, banking, energy, health care, manufacturing, technology and telecommunications sectors.

Perez will join the firm’s team of experienced private equity lawyers in representing private equity funds and other transaction sponsors, portfolio companies, management teams, co-investors and other participants in all aspects of private equity transactions. Based in key private equity markets in the United States, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, Greenberg Traurig’s private equity team regularly represents clients in structuring and organizing investment funds, evaluating, negotiating and consummating acquisition, financing and exit transactions, and providing transactional and general corporate representation to private equity funds and their portfolio companies.

“Flora’s hiring is part of our commitment to expanding our Corporate Practice to reflect the dynamic market for transactions that we are seeing in the region and that we expect will only continue to grow in the coming year,” said Matt Gorson, Greenberg Traurig’s co-chairman.

As Deputy General Counsel at Ryder System Inc., Perez provided legal counsel relating to securities, corporate governance, finance, executive compensation, and regulatory compliance matters. Perez completed over $3 billion in public debt offerings and multiple asset-backed and lease financing transactions; she also closed multiple acquisitions and strategic transactions both in the U.S. and internationally.

A leader in corporate diversity and empowerment, Perez co-founded Ryder’s Women’s Leadership Forum and other related Leadership Development programs.

Earlier in her career, while in private practice she served as counsel on a variety of deals for H.I.G Capital, Bluegreen Corporation, IVAX Corporation, Outsource International, Orius Corp. and others.

“Flora is an exceptional attorney whom we are confident will enhance and expand our practice to better serve our clients’ needs for high-quality legal counsel,” said Matthew W. Miller, Fort Lauderdale Administrative Shareholder.

Perez received a law degree, summa cum laude, in 1997 from the University of Miami School of Law. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting with high honors from the University of Florida in 1992.
