Greenberg Traurig’s Ian C. Ballon and Francoise Gilbert to Speak at the 28th Annual Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel’s All Hands Meeting

SILICON VALLEY, Calif. – Nov. 16, 2016 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Ian C. Ballon and Francoise Gilbert will be speaking at the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel’s 28th Annual All Hands Meeting held Nov. 16-17, at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

According to the website, the All Hands Meeting is a unique, multifaceted annual event tailored to the special needs of in-house professionals whose companies rely upon intellectual property. Ivy Associates presents the annual All Hands Meeting in coordination with the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel, an association of chief legal officers from more than one hundred leading technology and life science companies.

Ballon and Gilbert will present “Trends in Data Privacy, Security Breach and TCPA Litigation and How to Draft Documents to Minimize the Risk of Litigation,” from 2:20 to 3:05 Nov. 17. They will discuss emerging trends in data privacy, security breach, and TCPA class action suits, and the strategies that companies can use to reduce exposure, position to win on the merits or defeat class certification. The focus will be on practical strategies, with drafting and negotiation tips and examples.

Ballon is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and represents technology, media, and entertainment companies in intellectual property, internet, and mobile-related complex litigation, including the defense of data privacy, security breach, and TCPA class action suits. In addition, he is the author of The Complete CAN-SPAM Act Handbook (West 2008) and The Complete State Security Breach Notification Compliance Handbook (West 2009). He also serves as executive director of Stanford University Law School’s Center for E-Commerce, which hosts the annual Best Practices Conference where lawyers, scholars, and judges are regularly featured and interact. In addition to his JD and LLM, Ballon holds the CIPP/US certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He is based in the firm’s Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices.

Gilbert, a shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, focuses her practice and research on U.S. and global data privacy and security in a wide variety of markets, including, among others, internet, cloud computing, big data, connected devices, sensors, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. Her clients include public or multi-national entities, cloud service providers, big data analytics companies, connected device developers, publishers, internet stores, insurance companies, financial institutions, manufacturers, service providers, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, software developers, and others. Ms. Gilbert is the author of the two volume Global Privacy and Security Law treatise, published by Wolters Kluwer (www.globalprivacybook.com) and the co-author of a dozen other law books, including Privacy Compliance and Litigation in California published by CEB. She has co-chaired the PLI Privacy and Security Law Institute for the past 17 years. She has received law degrees both in the United States and in France, and holds CIPP/US, CIPP/EU, and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
