Greenberg Traurig Names Shareholder Class of 2016, Elevates 4 California Attorneys

LOS ANGELES – Feb. 5, 2016 – The Los Angeles and Sacramento offices of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP elevated four of its attorneys to shareholder. Firmwide, Greenberg Traurig elevated 30 attorneys to shareholder and 14 to of counsel.

The following California attorneys were elevated to shareholder:

Anthony J. Cortez (Sacramento) is a regulatory compliance attorney and business litigator with a focus on the representation of national consumer product companies and other businesses in compliance, commercial litigation, and government enforcement matters. Throughout California and nationally, Cortez advises and defends clients in legal, regulatory, and administrative proceedings involving numerous industries including food, drug, supplement, cosmetic, apparel, and industrial products, among others. He is regularly involved in complex and high-dollar value litigation involving federal and state consumer protection and environmental laws, including CA’s Proposition 65, false adverting law, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations, and other labeling or marketing laws. He has handled matters involving the FTC, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).

Matthew Gershman’s (Los Angeles) practice encompasses commercial litigation and appellate work in both state and federal courts. He is experienced in all phases of litigation from the pleadings stages through trial, as well as through writ proceedings and direct appeals. Gershman has particular experience in disputes involving real estate, family trust management, copyright claims, and class-action claims in the areas of false advertising, unfair competition, and products liability.

Daniell K. Newman (Los Angeles) focuses his practice on commercial litigation and class action defense. He has extensive federal and state jury trial experience, defending complex civil disputes in a variety of areas. One focus has been the representation of some of America’s best-known food and beverage companies in federal court, defending claims of false advertising and mislabeling under the Lanham Act and state consumer protection statutes. Newman also has a wealth of experience in products liability and toxic tort defense in  dozens of cases in California state courts, and has broad experience in the defense of consumer class actions. He is a member of the eDiscovery & eRetention Practice and is one of approximately two dozen Greenberg Traurig attorneys officially designated as an expert in electronic discovery and the management of electronically stored information.

William Wong (Los Angeles) handles corporate & securities transactional matters, including public and private securities offerings, private equity, and venture capital financings, in addition to mergers and acquisitions. Wong has routinely represented issuers and underwriters in public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, including Rule 144A and Regulation S offerings. He has represented companies in a wide range of industries, including insurance, energy, manufacturing, real estate development, and telecommunications.
