Four Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Named Billboard 2017 Top Music Lawyers; Joel Katz Awarded Lawyer of the Year

ATLANTA –July 28, 2017 – Four attorneys in Greenberg Traurig LLP’s Global Entertainment and Media Practice have been named to Billboard magazine’s third annual Top Music Lawyers list, which recognizes the biggest names and most prominent legal minds in the world of music and entertainment law.

The attorneys named are Joel Katz, chair of the Global Entertainment and Media Practice and founding shareholder of the Atlanta office; Jay Cooper, shareholder and founder of the Los Angeles Entertainment Practice; Bobby Rosenbloum, shareholder and co-chair of the Atlanta Entertainment and Media Practice; and Paul Schindler, shareholder and senior chair of the New York Entertainment and Media Practice. Additionally, Katz was named 2017 Lawyer of the Year. Katz’s Lawyer of the Year selection was based on a number of factors including his work overseas in countries such as China and Russia. He was also recognized for negotiating major deals, including a $600 million pact that would keep the GRAMMY Awards and other Recording Academy programming on CBS for the next nine years. Katz acts as co-counsel to the Michael Jackson estate and is the attorney for A-list clients including Jimmy Buffett, George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Julio Iglesias. He is one of the most sought-after attorneys for music industry executives such as Republic Records chairman/CEO Monte Lipman and president/COO Avery Lipman, RCA president/COO Tom Corson, and UMG Nashville CEO Mike Dungan.

Billboard recognized Cooper’s work for client Katy Perry’s new album, Witness, including her four-day YouTube livestream Witness World Wide. Rosenbloum’s clients include the social media app Musical.ly, Dick Clark Productions, and the Latin GRAMMY Awards. He also worked with The Recording Academy to bring the mainstream GRAMMYs to Madison Square Garden in 2018, the show’s first time in Manhattan in 15 years. Schindler’s representation of Billy Joel’s agent Dennis Arfa in selling his remaining stake in Artist Group International to The Yucaipa Companies was highlighted. Schindler also assisted Marc Anthony in setting up his entertainment firm Magnus Media, while negotiating the sale of British dance label Ministry of Sound to Sony Music.
