Steven J. Wadyka, Jr., shareholder in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, presented at “Hitting the Jackpot in Entertainment and Sports Law,” the ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries 2017 Annual Meeting Oct. 5-8 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Wadyka participated in two panel discussions:
- October 6: Around the World In 80 Minutes – Everything you need to know about the state of IP law and rights in the Americas, the Eurpean Union, and Asia. The panelists discussed various IP-related developments taking place all over the world, including pending international agreements and legislation as well as hot topics and issues that practitioners should be aware of. They also delved into the possible legal and business implications that these developments may have on the entertainment and sports industries and its players looking to do business in the United States and abroad. Mr. Wadyka addressed the recent developments in the European Union and their impact on content creators and sports figures.
- October 7: Hot Trademark and Advertising Issues in the Entertainment and Sports Industries – The panelists examined and discussed the latest cases and hottest issues in the entertainment and sports industries, including the latest developments in social media advertising. Mr. Wadyka addressed the recent court decisions where First Amendment issues posed obstacles to protecting and enforcing trademark rights.
