Greenberg Traurig’s David J. Dykeman Chairs “Israel Biomedical and Healthcare Innovation” Delegation to Israel

BOSTON — Feb. 17, 2015 — David J. Dykeman, patent attorney, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Life Sciences & Medical Technology Group, and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Group in Boston, served as chair of the life sciences delegation to Israel, “Israel Biomedical and Healthcare Innovation.” In this role, Dykeman led a delegation of biomedical, healthcare, and venture capital (VC) companies for a three-day exploration of innovation in Israel from Feb.2-5, 2015. Participants included senior executives from leading medical technology companies, hospitals, universities, and VC and private equity firms.

Organized by New England-Israel Business Council (NEIBC) and Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP), the trip was modeled after Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s trade mission to Israel in May 2014, and provided senior biomedical and healthcare executives and investors with an insider's look at the “Start-up Nation.” The itinerary included focused meetings with Israeli medical device and healthcare industry leadership, technology entrepreneurs, and policy makers, as well as private meetings with the leadership of several Israeli companies.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Greenberg Traurig hosted a dinner reception with leaders in the Israeli life sciences industry. The dinner featured the leadership of Israeli biomedical companies, leading investors, and attorneys from five Greenberg Traurig offices around the world. The attendees learned the latest venture capital trends in Israel.

“With over 750 medical device companies, 300 pharmaceutical/biotech companies, and 170 other life science or healthcare IT companies, Israel is a biomedical and healthcare powerhouse,” said Dykeman. “As one of the most innovative tech hubs in the world, Boston is an ideal strategic partner for Israel. We were delighted to bring this life sciences delegation to Israel to explore opportunities for new business development, investment, and R&D collaboration.”

A registered patent attorney with over 18 years of experience in patents, intellectual property, and licensing, Dykeman focuses his practice on securing strategic worldwide intellectual property protection and related business strategy for high-tech clients, with particular expertise in medical devices, life sciences, biotechnology, and healthcare IT. Dykeman is the founding co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Medical Devices Committee, and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Medical Device + Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI) Magazine.

An author of over 45 articles and a speaker at over 40 conferences on medical devices and life sciences intellectual property, Dykeman was honored as a “Life Science Star” by LMG Life Sciences, and was named one of the top 250 Patent and Technology Licensing Practitioners in the world by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Magazine.
