2016 Pennsylvania Top Women in Law- Ana Cecilia Montalban

ANA CECILIA MONTALBAN

Montalbán, an associate at Greenberg Traurig, is counsel to a variety of clients in all types of public finance transactions throughout the United States. She is currently part of the disclosure team for the city of Philadelphia’s water and wastewater utility. In 2015, Montalbán assisted Philadelphia with a large tax-exempt bond transaction—the issuance of $417,456,000 principal amount of revenue bonds, which achieved debt service savings for the city and helped finance needed capital improvements to its water and wastewater system. She has experience with green infrastructure projects within Philadelphia and is an advocate for green financing initiatives. 

Her family is from Nicaragua and she remains dedicated to the Latino community, including providing pro bono legal services to special immigrant juveniles and victims of trafficking. 

What career path would you have pursued if you weren’t a lawyer? 

Have you ever watched the movie “The Fugitive,” with Harrison Ford? My dad was obsessed with it, and when I was younger I thought I would be a vascular surgeon. I even enrolled in undergraduate pre-med courses at the University of Pennsylvania. I guess things didn’t go as planned, but I still love that movie.
