Three Greenberg Traurig Attorneys Participate in Leading Food & Beverage Conference SupplySide West

LAS VEGAS – November 21, 2018 – James R. Prochnow, Justin J. Prochnow, and Anthony J. Cortez of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP spoke at SupplySide West at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV. The conference, according to its website, gathers more than 17,000 ingredient buyers and suppliers from the dietary supplement, beverage, functional food, personal care, and sports nutrition industries to explore industry trends and opportunities.

James Prochnow, a shareholder in the firm’s Denver office, spoke in the session, "CBD and Hemp Extracts: How Do We Move Forward?” which examined the current CBD landscape, strategies for maturing as an industry, and regulatory considerations. He concentrates his practice on Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) actions, advice and related litigation, which includes import detentions, government inspections, investigations, and defense of class actions.

Denver Shareholder Justin Prochnow spoke in the session, “Marketing Effectively & Legally via Social Media," which reviewed social media marketing regulations, how to partner with influencers, and marketing considerations such as audience engagement and messaging. He assists companies with regulatory, business, and legal needs in the beverage, food, dietary supplement, cosmetic, medical device, and OTC industries. He also works closely with companies to ensure regulatory compliance with statutes and regulations enforced by the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, and other regulatory agencies.

Cortez, a shareholder in the firm’s Sacramento office, spoke in the session, "Responding to State Legislators & Attorneys General.” The discussion focused on how the supplement industry’s reaction to recent legislation, the state of Prop 65 litigation and related ramifications for conventional food and dietary supplement industries. Cortez is a regulatory attorney and business litigator with a focus on the representation of national consumer product companies and other businesses in compliance, commercial litigation, and government enforcement matters.
