Henry Greenberg to Speak at the 55th Charles Evans Hughes Memorial Lecture

NEW YORK April 15, 2019Henry M. Greenberg, a litigation shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Albany office and president-elect of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), will speak at the 55th Charles Evans Hughes Memorial Lecture at the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) Home of Law on April 18, 2019.

Greenberg joins an impressive group of individuals from the highest levels of the profession who have delivered the Charles Evans Hughes Memorial Lecture. They include Chief Judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and New York Court of Appeals, a former U.S. Attorney General, bar leaders, and Deans of law schools. Greenberg’s lecture will be titled, “Charles Evans Hughes & The Role of New York’s Organized Bar at a Time of Crisis for the Rule of Law.” He will be introduced by former Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals, Hon. Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick, who is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s National Appellate Practice Group and a member of the firm’s New York office.

According to NYCLA, “Since 1950, Hughes Hubbard has sponsored a lecture in conjunction with the New York County Lawyers Association on the ideals of public service and the education of lawyers and the public.”

On June 1, 2019, Greenberg will become President of NYSBA, the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. A former Counsel to the New York State Attorney General, General Counsel to a major New York State agency and federal prosecutor, he has handled numerous high-profile matters. He concentrates his practice on civil litigation, criminal and civil investigations, and regulatory and administrative law.

From 2007 to 2010, Greenberg served as Counsel to then New York State Attorney General (now Governor), Andrew M. Cuomo. In that capacity, he worked on some of the agency's most significant litigation and public policy initiatives. He also served as General Counsel for the New York State Department of Health (1995 to 2000), where he was the chief legal advisor to the Commissioner of Health and administered an office of more than 100 attorneys engaged in virtually all aspects of administrative law.

In addition to his current role as president-elect of the New York State Bar Association, Greenberg is counsel to the New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination, which nominates New York’s Court of Appeals Judges. He chairs the Third Department Judicial Screening Committee and is a member of the State Judicial Screening Committee, Judicial Task Force on the New York State Constitution, and the State Commission on the Restoration of the Capitol. He is a founding member and vice chair of statewide programming for the Historical Society of the New York Courts and a member of the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law and the advisory group of the New York State and Federal Judicial Council.
