ATLANTA – July 1, 2019 – Attorneys and business staff from the Atlanta office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP hosted a youth program for LaAmistad, June 17. Ian R. Macdonald, co-chair of the Immigration & Compliance Practice, organized and led the program.
The event brought 14 Latino students from the Atlanta Classical Academy to Greenberg Traurig’s office for a daylong introduction to the legal field. During the day, students learned to make persuasive arguments and attorneys from the firm’s immigration, entertainment, and products liability practices gave an overview of their work. The day culminated with video presentations where students outlined their own arguments advocating for support of LaAmistad as an organization.

Programs that introduce students to the legal profession are a great way to offer mentorship and educational opportunities to Atlanta’s Latino youth. LaAmistad is a non-profit organization that helps Latino families achieve success through academic and life enrichment programs. The group provides after-school tutoring, parent workshops, English language courses, and more.

Members of the Atlanta immigration team have provided multiple town hall meetings alongside LaAmistad throughout the years to members of the Latino community, providing an overview of immigration rights, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) updates, and more.
