Jinan Jawad is a litigator, acting for a wide variety of clients including high-profile individuals, entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses, families, and family offices. She works on complex commercial litigation and civil fraud matters of significant value, including multi-jurisdictional matters. Her experience includes bringing and responding to freezing orders and proprietary injunctions, and dealing with asset disclosure and asset protection issues. She also has considerable experience advising clients in relation to immigration and reputation protection matters.

As a native Arabic speaker, Jinan regularly serves as the first point of contact for high-net-worth Middle Eastern individuals and families who depend on her and her considerable contact base to assist them on a variety of legal matters.

Experience

  • Currently representing the first and main defendant in one of The Lawyer’s top 20 cases for 2020, and one of the largest disputes ever before the Commercial Court, involving alleged secret commissions in the Middle East and Europe. The case raises important issues of jurisdiction, applicable law, and Swiss banking secrecy.
  • Assisted with acting for the main individual defendant in one of the most aggressively pursued claims brought before the Commercial Court (quantum - US2.1bn), which was listed for a 13 week trial in April 2017 (number 6 in The Lawyer’s top 20 cases for 2017). The case involved complex developing legal issues, including the use of confidentiality clubs to protect the physical security of people based in Libya. The action, which included allegations of bribery and intimidation, was discontinued with an agreed payment of £16.5m in respect of the main defendant’s costs.°
  • Acted for clients in relation to UK immigration matters, to include complex naturalisation and registration applications involving a high number of absences from the UK, and Indefinite Leave to Remain for applicants in exceptional circumstances.°
  • Acted for an art gallery in relation to international criminal and civil claims and delivery up of contemporary artworks following an international theft.°
  • Acted for various clients in reputation disputes with media organisations and other opponents.°
