Greenberg Traurig’s Lori Cohen, Arthur Don, Carl Fornaris and Alan Sutin Participate as Speakers at Association of Corporate Counsel 2014 Annual Meeting

NEW YORK & ATLANTA – (Oct. 29, 2014) – A multi-office group of Shareholders with international law firm Greenberg Traurig – Lori G. Cohen, Arthur Don, Carl A. Fornaris, and Alan N. Sutin – will participate as speakers in the 2014 Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Meeting from Oct. 28 – Oct. 31 in New Orleans. The event takes place at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Boulevard, New Orleans, LA, 70130.

The meeting is the world’s largest gathering of in-house counsel and features three days of intensive programming on current legal issues. Experienced presenters discuss changes to the field and best practices on how to adapt. Continuing Legal Education credits are provided.

Here is an overview of the topics each attorney will discuss:

  • Cohen, who is based in the firm’s Atlanta office, will speak on the program’s “Litigation and Dispute Resolution Track” and discuss “Managing Product Liability on a Global Scale,” from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. The presentation will provide perspectives from noted thought-leaders on how companies can manage risk and coordinate global product recalls, regulatory action and subsequent litigation.

    At Greenberg Traurig, Cohen has a national litigation practice focusing on product liability litigation and specifically, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. She is Chair of the firm’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice and Chair of its Trial Practice Group as well as Co-Chair of the Atlanta Litigation Practice. She is nationally recognized for her trial expertise, having won 56 defense verdicts at trial. 
     
  • Don, who is based in the firm’s Chicago office, will speak on the “Compliance and Ethics Track” and discuss “Recognizing and Dealing with Conflicts of Interest Arising from Having and Doing Business with Affiliated Entities,” from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31. Panelists will explore the conflicts that arise when affiliated banks, brokers, investment advisers, funds, and insurance companies do business with each other. They will address how to identify, disclose, mitigate, and manage these types of conflicts as well as discuss the rules of professional responsibility and ethical considerations.

    At Greenberg Traurig, Don is a Shareholder and Co-Chair of the firm’s Investment Regulation Group. He has more than 30 years of experience representing mutual funds, public investment companies, fund independent directors, investment advisers, private investment funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, broker-dealers and public companies in a variety of sophisticated securities transactions.
     
  • Fornaris, based in the firm’s Miami and Washington, D.C., offices, will present to the financial services committee Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. He will discuss Virtual Currency/Bitcoin:  What It Is, How It’s Regulated, and its Future.

    At Greenberg Traurig, Fornaris is Co-Chair of the firm's Financial Regulatory and Compliance Practice and concentrates his practice on the representation of financial services firms in all aspects of their business. In particular, he represents U.S. and non-U.S. firms on finance and corporate matters and provides supervisory and compliance counseling for institutions.
     
  • Sutin, based in the firm’s New York office, will speak on the “Technology Track” and discuss “Getting to Know You, Getting to Know All About You: Big Data – Friend or Foe?” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. The session will explore answers to pressing questions regarding the use of the enormous amount of data that people, companies and governments generate about themselves on a daily basis. Modern personal, commercial and industrial devices now come loaded with sensors and technology that can track a wide range of information about how they are used, and there is a growing perceived need to collect and mine the resulting data for useful insights about markets, customers, competitors, and competitive threats. Panelists will discuss how this data can best be collected, what legal issues surround the collection of this data, and what key concerns and pitfalls companies using big data should keep high on their radars.
