Close to 40 attorneys, lobbyists joined Washington, D.C. office in past 12 months
WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 9, 2014) -- Andrew Zausner, most recently the Chair of Dickstein Shapiro's Public Policy & Law Practice, will join the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as Chair of the firm’s Washington, D.C. Government Law and Policy Practice. He will join with 12 others from Dickstein Shapiro, including former Senator Tim Hutchinson, former Representative Pete Hoekstra, former Representative Albert R. Wynn, and Rob Mangas, former Chief of Staff to Senator Wendell Ford.

Close to 40 attorneys and lobbyists have joined Greenberg Traurig’s Washington, D.C. office in the past 12 months. While the firm has identified the region as an important growth priority, Greenberg Traurig already maintains a strong presence in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, with more than 140 attorneys in the region, and approximately 2000 attorneys in a total of 29 markets in the U.S. as well as seven locations in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. Elsewhere, the firm continues to attract top-level teams and individuals as part of its strategy to grow and bolster key areas of practice important to clients addressing the impact of global market issues, whether locally, regionally or internationally.
Zausner, as a partner at Dickstein Shapiro and head of that firm’s Public Policy & Law Practice, focused on the firm’s legislative activities. He has served as counsel on a myriad of legislative issues, with a focus on those that relate to energy, natural resources, consumer products, healthcare, real estate, and international relations.
Following is a snapshot of some members of Zausner’s team who will be joining him at Greenberg Traurig. In total, 13 attorneys and directors are joining the firm:
- Tim Hutchinson, former U.S. Senator from Arkansas, joins as a Senior Director. He served two terms (four years) in the U.S. House of Representatives and one term (six years) in the U.S. Senate. In the Senate, he served on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and took a leading role in the passage of Education Savings Accounts and helped shape the Leave No Child Behind legislation. While in the House of Representatives, he served on the Education and Labor Committee, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and was the original sponsor of child tax credit legislation. As a member of the Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Personnel Subcommittee, he sponsored legislation that now provides lifetime health care for military retirees. Having served four years on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the House and two years on the Environment and Public Works Committee in the Senate, Tim helped write two national transportation bills.
- Peter Hoekstra served nine terms (18 years) representing Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He joins as a Senior Director. Hoekstra was the Republican point person on national security issues, serving as both Chairman and ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. As Chairman, he led the effort resulting in the landmark 2004 legislation reforming the intelligence community in the wake of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He also served on the Committee on Education and Labor, and the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education and on the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections. He is one of the few former U.S. Congressmen with experience as a Fortune 500 business executive.
- Albert R. Wynn, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, joins as a Senior Director. He represented Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District for eight terms (16 years) and he served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and was Chair of the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials. While in Congress, he served as a Senior Democratic Whip, Regional Whip, Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Task Force on Small Business, and Co-Chair of the Hydrogen and Wireless Caucuses.
- Rob Mangas, who formerly served as counsel, legislative director, and Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Wendell Ford, focuses his practice on legislative activities. He has represented clients in a number of areas, including energy, environmental regulation, foreign policy, defense and homeland security, health care, tax policy, tobacco regulation, textiles, and transportation. He joins as a Shareholder.
Coming on the heels of other high-profile hires in the region, these additions further illustrate what Greenberg Traurig is achieving as “one team with one voice”, particularly in Washington, D.C., according to Rosenbaum.
In June, senior Patton Boggs partners Robert Brams and Michael Schaengold moved to the Greenberg Traurig Washington, D.C. office to Co-Chair the firm's Government Contracts & Projects Practice. Additionally, the firm announced the addition of Loretta A. Tuell in Washington, D.C. as a Shareholder. Tuell most recently served as Majority Staff Director and Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and for more than 20 years has worked in the arena of federal Indian law and policy. Edward "Teddy" Eynon, prior Deputy Chief of Staff to Arizona Congressman John Shadegg, also joined the office recently.
In addition, former Congressman Charles F. Bass (R-NH) recently joined the firm as a Senior Director in the Government Law & Policy Practice in Washington, D.C. Bass served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional district from 1995 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2013. Also recently, the firm grew its patent litigation capabilities in Washington, D.C. by adding three former Weil Gotshal Shareholders, Mark G. Davis, Stephen K. Shahida and Ronald J. Pabis, to its Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. Davis joined as Chair of Greenberg Traurig's International Trade Commission Practice. Experienced international arbitration attorney Thomas R. Snider joined in early 2014 as shareholder in the firm’s litigation practice. Snider joined the Washington, D.C. office from WilmerHale.
