Greenberg Traurig Attorneys to Present at AICUM Fall 2015 Symposium

BOSTON – Oct. 7, 2015 – International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston shareholders, H. Hamilton Hackney III and Paul J. Murphy, will present at the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) Fall 2015 Symposium, Oct. 8, 2015, at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts. From 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Hackney and Murphy will present, “Stormwater Permits – An Update on USEPA Proposals to Regulate Stormwater Discharges from Developed Properties in the Charles River Watershed.”

Hackney is chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Boston Environmental Practice and has broad experience in the areas of environmental law and commercial real estate. He represents clients in permit and other administrative proceedings, compliance counseling and enforcement matters, and response cost recovery and property damage actions. Hackney’s environmental experience includes matters arising under federal, state, and local laws relating to asbestos, air and water emissions, hazardous waste, toxic chemicals, wetlands, stormwater, endangered species, environmental impact review, underground storage tanks, solid waste, and land use matters. He regularly advises corporate, real estate, and private equity clients with respect to investigating and managing environmental liabilities arising from corporate and real estate transactions, including the purchase, sale, and redevelopment of contaminated real estate under state and federal Brownfields programs.

Murphy is co-chair of the firm’s Education Practice Group and a shareholder in the firm’s Boston Litigation Group. He has broad experience in business litigation, construction, and labor and employment matters. Murphy represents a number of colleges and universities in a wide range of matters including labor and employment, general litigation, athletic field and dormitory construction contracts, drafting and negotiation of vendor contracts, faculty and tenure issues, Town/Gown relations, and campus security issues. Also, he routinely serves as “outside general counsel” to a number of educational institutions, advising the board of trustees on policies and strategic issues.

Established in 1967 by college and university presidents, the association is comprised of 60 degree-granting, accredited, independent (private) colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.
