It's been a busy year for immigration in the courts, from the Fifth Circuit's ruling on the president's key executive actions to a slew of lawsuits from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over the EB-5 investor program. Here, Law360 takes a look at some of the top immigration cases from 2015.

After securing a block on the executive action policies in February, the states won another victory this November, when a divided Fifth Circuit panel upheld the injunction. Not only has the case been a blow to the president's immigration legacy, it's also left unauthorized immigrants in limbo, said Ian Macdonald of Greenberg Traurig LLP.

"The Texas v. the United States [case] has completely torpedoed the Obama administration's central reform initiatives, leaving both employers and undocumented workers in a place where they don't have an immediate resolution," Macdonald said.
