MIAMI – Oct. 14, 2016 – Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder for the Miami office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., was installed Thursday as Chair of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council. Davis previously held the position of Chair Elect. During his one-year term, Davis will showcase innovation as a way to drive economic growth and build business in Miami-Dade County through the theme of “Connect and Grow.”
The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s official, not-for-profit, economic development partnership, seeks to diversify Miami Dade’s economy with increased job opportunities and investment in a wide range of sectors. At its annual meeting Oct. 13, the organization announced that it was adopting innovation as its focus for the year ahead. More than 400 people attended the event held at the Miami Marriott Dadeland Hotel. Greenberg Traurig sponsored the “Network with Purpose” portion of the event.
“I am honored to lead the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and look forward to working with my fellow board members to develop and grow Miami-Dade into a community of tomorrow,” Davis said. “Miami-Dade County has become a breeding ground for innovative thinking and creative partnerships. Our goal is to help take that entrepreneurial mindset to the next level and evolve our economic development efforts to benefit the community through the creation of new companies and industries.”
Davis’ goal is to work with the Miami-Dade Beacon Council to push existing businesses beyond their comfort zones, in an effort to generate products and services for the future. “This new beginning is all about disruption of the status quo, encouraging advances in technology and fostering collaboration between unique industries and business sectors,” he said.
At Greenberg Traurig, Davis oversees approximately 160 attorneys and 200 business staff who are based in the firm's founding office in Miami. A shareholder in the firm's Corporate and Securities Practice, focusing on both domestic and international transactions within the mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and credit markets arenas, Davis represents numerous companies with an industry focus on the technology, healthcare and biotech sectors.
Davis is actively involved in the community, impacting the economic development in areas such as entrepreneurship, technology, education reform and digital healthcare. Most recently, Davis was a driving force in the introduction of Startupbootcamp in Miami, a proven business accelerator and mentorship model aiming to bring 30 start-ups in digital health to the city for the next three years.
He serves as General Counsel to the Technology Foundation of the Americas, the nonprofit spearheading the annual eMerge Americas global technology conference based in Miami, Florida; President of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association; and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of Miami Children’s Hospital. Davis also serves on a number of additional philanthropic and civic boards, including the Miami Children’s Initiative, City Year, the SEED Foundation and the Miami Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association.
