Greenberg Traurig Attorneys to Present at AICUM Fall 2017 Symposium

BOSTON – Oct. 5, 2017 — Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston attorneys Paul J. Murphy and Jack S. Gearan will present at the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) Fall 2017 Symposium, Oct. 6, 2017, at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts. Murphy and Gearan will present, “The Next Wave of Labor and Employment Litigation Against Massachusetts Colleges and Universities: Pay Equity, Statutory Leave, and Retirement Class Action Claims.”

As co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Education Practice, Murphy has vast experience addressing the full range of complex issues and challenges facing colleges and universities, from regulatory compliance matters (including Title IX and Title IV) to complex construction, real estate, contract, and labor and employment matters. He currently is managing the merger/consolidation of two, independent institutions located in two different states, and has recently been successful in obtaining an initial authorization and approval from the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education for the first new, independent, nonprofit, higher education institution in the Commonwealth to be given degree-granting authority in more than 20 years.

Gearan, an Employment Law and Litigation attorney in the firm’s Boston office, has experience in all phases of civil litigation including discovery, mediation, arbitration, trial, and appellate practice. He specializes in complex employment litigation and trials. Gearan is also a member of the firm’s Education Practice in which he advises schools and colleges on a variety of employment and other legal issues, including Title IX and Clery Act compliance.

The association, established in 1967 by college and university presidents, is comprised of 60 degree-granting, accredited, independent (private) colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.
