Greenberg Traurig Expands Energy Practice In Northeast; Adds John DeTore In Boston

BOSTON – Jan. 25, 2018 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added John DeTore to its Boston office as a shareholder in the firm’s growing Energy & Natural Resources Practice.

DeTore’s practice encompasses all aspects of energy project development. He has worked on numerous major energy projects involving billions of dollars in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. DeTore has also participated in regulatory proceedings before state and federal agencies. His appellate experience includes 11 cases before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.

Among DeTore’s achievements is obtaining all regulatory approvals for the three most recent large power plants in Massachusetts. He also represented the first three power plant projects to be permitted by the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board and the first merchant power plant to be licensed in Massachusetts. Based on these matters, the board modified their standards to meet the needs of these types of facilities.

“We are continuously elevating the value we offer clients by way of top-tier practitioners in energy project development. John’s addition to our national and global Energy & Natural Resources Practice is part of that strategy for the practice,” said Kenneth M. Minesinger, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Energy & Natural Resources Practice.

“Perhaps earlier than most, we recognized the value of growing this practice strategically in Boston. We are proud of what we have done. One of the results is having someone with John’s experience and reputation join our team,” said Terence P. McCourt, managing shareholder of the law firm’s Boston office.

Most recently joining the Energy Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Boston office were Gregory K. Lawrence and Thomas O. Lemon. Lawrence focuses his practice on the electricity and natural gas industries. Lemon previously worked as an attorney-advisor in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Office of Enforcement. He focuses his practice on litigation and regulation in the energy sector.

“I am very familiar and have worked with members of this team; the respect they command in the marketplace is just one of the many reasons I chose to come to Greenberg Traurig. Additionally, the firm’s footprint and culture will allow me to offer something more to my clients, while presenting opportunities for me to participate in the group’s winning strategy,” DeTore said.

DeTore received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.A. from Harvard College.
