Greenberg Traurig Continues Strategic Growth of Miami Office with New Tax and Employee Benefits Shareholders

MIAMI – Dec. 4, 2018 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. has strengthened its Tax and Employee Benefits & Compensation practices by adding two shareholders in its Miami office. L. Frank Cordero has joined the firm’s Tax Practice, and Leanne Reagan has joined the firm’s Employee Benefits & Compensation Practice.

“We are thrilled to have Frank and Leanne joining us, where they will add to our already robust tax and employee benefits practices,” said Yosbel A. Ibarra, co-managing shareholder of the Miami office. “Having a Spanish-speaking tax expert like Frank join our firm is a tremendous asset to support our global practice, and Leanne will join our recognized employee benefits practice, which serves diverse clients, including private equity clients on complex acquisition transactions.”

Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Cordero served as chair of Akerman’s Federal Tax Practice, and Reagan was a partner within Akerman’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice.

“We are pleased to welcome Frank and Leanne to our practice, which comprises many nationally and internationally recognized and respected attorneys in the tax field,” said William R. Siegel, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Tax Practice and chair of the firm’s Miami Tax Practice. “I am certain that they will add to our team’s significant abilities to exceed the challenges faced by our broad range of clients.”

Cordero focuses his tax practice on mergers and acquisitions involving domestic and foreign public and private companies and private equity funds, corporate and partnership tax, business structuring and executive compensation. His representations include advising buyers and sellers with respect to taxable and tax-free acquisitions, golden parachute issues, establishment of profits interest arrangements in partnership entities and public and private offerings of equity and debt securities. He also advises multinational businesses with respect to investments and activities in the U.S. and abroad.

Cordero received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School; his M.S. in Taxation from Florida International University; and his B.B.A. in Accounting with high honors from Florida International University.

“I am very excited about coming back to Greenberg Traurig,” said Cordero, who worked for the firm as an associate from 1990 to 1994. “The firm is considered a top player in the M&A market in Florida and that success will provide an opportunity for me to continue to grow my practice.”

Reagan's practice focuses on advising public and private companies on the design and implementation of qualified and non-qualified retirement and deferred compensation plans, welfare plans, cafeteria plans, and other employee benefit programs for both public and private companies. She regularly assists clients on executive compensation, golden parachute and benefits plan considerations arising in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate events.

Reagan also helps clients maintain compliance with the federal laws and regulations associated with these plans, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, federal healthcare reform, COBRA, and HIPAA. In addition, she advises clients with respect to Section 409A compliance, negotiating and documenting executive employment agreements, equity arrangements, change-in-control agreements, and severance agreements.

She received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law; her LL.M. in Taxation from New York University of School of Law; and her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida, where she was valedictorian of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2005.

“In joining Greenberg Traurig, I have a larger platform that allows me to significantly expand the transactional side of my work and better meet the needs of my clients,” Reagan said.
