Greenberg Traurig’s Gregory Kehoe Participates in IBA/War Crimes Committee Report Presentation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 5, 2022Gregory W. Kehoe, a litigation shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, P.A., participated in the presentation of a report at the National Press Club on June 27 that documents crimes against  humanity committed by North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and other high officials. The report, compiled by the International Bar Association’s (IBA) War Crimes Committee and the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, calls for an investigation of his regime.

Representing  the culmination of a multi-year inquiry documenting the inhumanity of crimes committed in multiple North Korean detention centers, the presentation included clips from the first-ever documentary to detail many of atrocities that have taken place in North Korean detention centers. An IBA hearing held last March, which included Kehoe and four renowned international judges, featured testimony from 25 North Koreans who have escaped from these detention centers regarding the atrocities they had witnessed. These included the systematic persecution and murder of Christians, summary executions, sexual assaults, and infanticide. The hearing also included a sworn affidavit by a former North Korean deputy ambassador who defected to the U.S.

“North Korea’s network of detention centers has largely eluded the scrutiny of the international community for many decades. But the testimony presented at the March hearing, along with other evidence, should demonstrate that there is a reasonable basis to call for an investigation and prosecution of Kim Jong-on and his regime for some of the most heinous crimes against humanity ever documented in modern times,” said Kehoe, a former co-chair of the IBA War Crimes Committee.

Kehoe, who is based in Greenberg Traurig’s Tampa office, has a national and international practice with more than 35 years of trial experience. He served as a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice for over 20 years, where he was responsible for prosecuting numerous of high-profile cases involving financial institutions and corporate fraud allegations and racketeering charges. He also led the team of lawyers and investigators that advised the Iraqi Special Tribunal, an ad hoc court formed to prosecute Saddam Hussein and members of his former regime.
