HOUSTON – Dec. 4, 2014 – Roland Garcia, a shareholder in the Houston office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been appointed to the City of Houston’s Arts and Cultural Plan Community Advisory Committee by Houston Mayor Annise Parker and committee co-chairs Philamena Baird and Rick Lowe.
The advisory committee will collaborate with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and is comprised of leaders from a wide range of disciplines and industries, including the nonprofit, creative, legal, business, community development, faith-based and health care sectors. Committee members will help shape the vision of the City of Houston’s Arts and Cultural Plan, the first in more than 20 years. By identifying what matters to the local community, the plan will help guide the city’s future investments.

With more than 25 years of experience, Garcia concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, government relations and compliance, and copyright law. Named a "Texas Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers magazine, he has tried many high profile lawsuits in state and federal trial courts, and has handled a wide range of matters in state and federal appellate courts.
Garcia holds key leadership positions in several professional organizations, was past president of the Houston Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association, and the Dispute Resolution Center, and was appointed by President Barack Obama to the Board of Visitors of the United States Naval Academy, the governing body for the prestigious Maryland institution. He is actively involved in local, state and national politics, serving on many finance and steering committees of office holders and candidates. A community leader, Garcia is a board member of the Houston Arts Alliance, the Greater Houston Partnership, Memorial Hermann Health System, Harris County Hospital District Foundation, and is chairman of the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board.
