Greenberg Traurig’s Fred E. Karlinsky Teaches Law and Risk Management Course at FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. March  25, 2015 Fred E. Karlinsky, a shareholder in the Government Law & Policy Group and Co-Chair of the Insurance Regulatory & Transactions Practice of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., recently taught a course on Law and Risk Management at the Florida State University College of Law where he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law since 2008. This course was a collaborative effort between the College of Law and the College of Business Department of Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate & Legal Studies program.

This four-day spring recess course focused on risk and examined the role that insurance plays in handling risk. Students explored issues surrounding the operation of insurance companies in Florida, and examined how these companies are regulated. The course provided a general understanding of the challenges are unique to Florida insurance companies, the workings of the residual market in Florida in comparison to other states, and what the legislature is doing to resolve current issues surrounding these topics. Approximately 30 second and third year law students and risk management graduate students, along with Florida Office of Insurance Regulation officials, were in attendance.

Weidner, Dean, Florida State University College of Law.
