Greenberg Traurig’s Fred E. Karlinsky Teaches Law and Risk Management Course at FSU

FORT LAUDERDALE and TALLAHASSEE, Fla. March 14, 2016Fred E. Karlinsky, Co-Chair of the Insurance Regulatory & Transactions Practice at international law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., recently taught a course titled “Law and Risk Management” at the Florida State University College of Law, where he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law since 2008. The course was a collaborative effort between the College of Law and the College of Business’ Department of Risk Management/Insurance, Real Estate & Legal Studies.

The four-day spring recess course focused on insurance regulation and compliance, risk, the operation of insurance companies in Florida, challenges unique to Florida insurance companies, the workings of the residual market in Florida in comparison to other states, the role of trade associations, and what the legislature is doing to resolve current issues surrounding these topics. Approximately 50 second and third year law students and graduate business students were in attendance.

Speakers included The Honorable Jeff Atwater, Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida; Professor Lynne McChristian and Dr. Lori Medders, FSU College of Business; Sha’Ron James, Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate; Barry Gilway, Citizens Insurance; Steve Szypula and Jack Nicholson, Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund; Tom Koval, FCCI; Tony Gregory, Insurance Market Conferences - London; Representative Bill Hager, Florida House of Representatives; and Justice Ricky Polston, Florida Supreme Court

Karlinsky is Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig's Insurance Regulatory and Transactions Practice Group and a shareholder within the Government Law & Policy Group. He represents insurers, reinsurers, producers and other insurance interests throughout the U.S. and internationally in a wide variety of business, operational, regulatory, transactional and governmental matters. Recognized as one of the top insurance lawyers by Chambers and Partners, Karlinsky has extensive knowledge of insurance compliance matters and is a sought-after thought leader who has spoken and presented papers to insurance executives and governmental officials, both nationally and internationally.

Karlinsky received a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law.
